These up and coming artists represent a shift in processing culture and contemporary art. Through absurdity, iconography, and outright comedy the artists of Mauveing On Up approach issues of gender, race, technological/internet culture, the history of art, and life itself in such a way that is at once both disarming and alarming. As Abraham Lincoln used to say before fencing with Stevie Wonder, “Humor is too important of a job to be left to professional humorists.”

Curatorial Statement:
These images are an awareness of our conscious and unconscious desires. We are interested in the possession and consumption of objects that we unknowingly take advantage of and the later feelings of regret and guilt from the loss of our phantasy. But by being aware of this primal self we have the ability to either deny or indulge in our fantasy and abuse of these objects.

STORE is a gallery in Portland, OR dedicated to showing emerging artists and college students in the area. STORE, PLACE, TRADE, and PEOPLE'S make up Settlement, a family of galleries occupying Pioneer Place Mall in the heart of downtown Portland. The collection shown here is curated through the gallery to express the artistic influences of those we work with.
